A toast to a nostalgic lake freighter along the shores of Lake Superior.

Tom-nICE-mug-7823 — A cheers to to the lake freighter Arthur M Anderson and the spirit of Jesse B. Cooper, who put his life on the line trying to help navigate the Edmund Fitzgerald.

This nICE mug enthusiast was able to get his hands on a nICE mug kit before its official launch. While enjoying a nICE mug on the shores of Lake Superior, he happened to spot the SS Arthur M. Anderson the Great Lakes cargo ship famous for being the last ship to be in contact with the SS Edmund Fitzgerald before it sank 10 November 1975.

In the thick of this intense storm, Jesse B. “Bernie” Cooper, then captain of the SS Arthur M. Anderson, turned the ship around in a fierce gail storm to look for the Fitzgerald after radio contact was lost.
